 Tournament Details

The Toowoomba District Primary School Individual Chess Championship will be held on Tuesday 11 March 2025 at Toowoomba Anglican School Millenium Centre.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Drop off – 8.45 am for a 9.15 am start (Do not arrive BEFORE 8.45am due to traffic congestion of regular school traffic)

Pick Up – approximately 4.00 pm (Do not arrive BEFORE 4.00pm due to traffic congestion of regular school traffic)

Rounds

There will be 7 or 8 rounds based on final numbers.

Divisions

This tournament is open to all primary school students, from Year 1 right up to Year 6.  They can compete in one of two divisions.

  •  Novice division is for Years 1 to 3
  • Open division is open to all levels up to Year 6

School Requirements

  • Each school needs to have at least one representative/s (e.g. teacher) from their school for the supervision and responsibility of their students.
  • Because the venue is near an oval, students may be permitted to play on it in between rounds/games.
  • Please download entry forms using the buttons above, complete and send your completed entry forms to sam@toowoombachessclub.com.au by 5.00 pm on Thursday 6 March 2025.
  • Please collect the money for all your students (at your end). The Toowoomba Chess Club will invoice your school for the total amount of students from your school after the event.
  • There is now a new requirement by our state chess body that we must collect contact details of all parents of children playing (school contact details are not sufficient)
  • Teacher supervisors are asked to provide strict supervision of the food rules above with their students and ensure no students/adults are having anything but water inside the Millenium Centre.

  • Teachers will also be required to put their name down for certain times of the day to supervise children in general outside the Millenium Centre as per usual to ensure a smooth running of the tournament.

  • Canteen pre-orders can be made until 5 March 2025. Pre-ordering is recommended to get what you want. You can purchase from the canteen on the day. It will be open from 9.30am to 3.00pm for pickup or purchase.
  • No food or drink is to be consumed by anyone inside the Millenium Centre except for water.
  • Do not arrive before 8.45am or arrive to pick up your child/children before 3.45pm to avoid traffic congestion.

Parents

  • Please arrange to let your child/ren’s school know if they are available to play and advise ASAP.
  • It is recommended that students bring bottled water on the day.
  • Canteen pre-orders can be made until 5 March 2025. Pre-ordering is recommended to get what you want. You can purchase from the canteen on the day. It will be open from 9.30am to 3.00pm for pickup or purchase.
  • No food or drink is to be consumed by anyone inside the Millenium Centre except for water.
  • Please pack food and drink, e.g. lunch for your child/ren if you’d prefer.
  • Do not arrive before 8.45am or arrive to pick up your child/children before 3.45pm to avoid traffic congestion.

  • Refund of entry fee due to illness will only be accepted if notified before round 1 commences.

Photographs

General photographs and video of the playing venue and the children (as a whole) playing will be taken on the day by the Toowoomba Chess Club and may be added to our website or social media channels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my children have to wear school uniform?

As this tournament is on a school day and your child will be representing your school, it is imperative that school uniforms are worn.

How do I enter?

All entries are made via your child’s school. If you haven’t received anything from your school regarding this tournament, please get in touch with their reception and they’ll be able to assist you.

Who do I pay my entry fees to?

Please pay your entry fee and provide your details to your child’s school.

I'd love to help out if I can. What options do I have?

We are always on the look out for parent volunteers. Your involvement in these tournaments make a large contribution to their success. We can’t be successful without you.

Your options to assist include…

  1. Taking results from children at the results desk.
  2. If you are good at chess, being an official who answers questions from players when they put up their hands during rounds and assisting with chess clocks.
  3. Setting up the night before. 
What requirements are there to volunteer on the day?

If you are a parent of a player there are no other requirements to be able to assist.

If you are not a parent, you will require a blue card and have it linked to the Toowoomba Chess Club Organisation Register.

After the event, how do I find out how my child did overall?

The results will be added to the Toowoomba Chess Club website sometime the day after the tournament.

What is the deadline for entries?

Your school will need to collate all the entries and send me the entire list by 5.00 pm on Thursday 6 March 2025.

You will need to make sure you get your entry details to your school in plenty of time for them to meet that deadline.

My child is sick and can't make it. What do I do?

If your child is unwell, it is best to contact your school, and also the tournament organisers so your child can be removed from the draw.
